Between the affirmative noise alongside Fedde Le Grand’s Flamingo Recordings imprint and his impending appearance at this year’s Mysteryland festival, German fast-riser Deniz Koyu has remained a valiantly poised contender amid the European cohorts. But following a sneak preview courtesy of FLG’s popular radio show and support from both Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, the young producer takes the reins for Refune Records with the highly anticipated ‘Bong’.
While Koyu’s blend of European big room is aptly energised throughout, the stamina to which his well ornamented leads and sturdy beat works play-out reigns highly above the majority of his hopeful new school peers. Despite the significant quality that Refune’s fresh-faced entourage of talents have mustered throughout 2012, the familiar yet fertile ‘Bong’ sets straight the notion that Koyu remains a formative and fresh leader on the European circuit.
‘Bong’ is released on June 8.
The analogy goes that DJs are the modern age rock stars. Having already ticked the queen of pop Madonna off of his remix duties for 2012, Avicii reinstates this universal concept by taking on the American master of stadium-proof rock anthems Lenny Kravitz and his ‘Superlove’ single. Premiered during the grandeur of his enigmatic UMF set in Miami, Tim Bergling sets out to prove that amid the hype there are still some surprising avenues for his genre to poke at.
Bringing a typical soundest of melodic play closely associated with his rise to the ranks of European Dance enigma, Bergling’s solid lead play rings throughout this thorough yet seemingly inoffensive endeavour into the realms of commercial rock. Some may still be bitter about the bigger picture now ahead of Electronic Dance Music, but as Avicii’s ongoing studio endeavours prove, the world is now the stage for a genre that once remained confined to the club floor.
There has been something in the vocal styling’s of Florence Welch that has continued to inspire the ranks of EDM’s finest remixers. With a track record for chart-worthy cuts as strong as his impending reign as the master of the Fly Eye imprint, Scottish House enthusiast Calvin Harris turns his hand on the familiar ‘Spectrum’ for its a formal transition from the pop charts to the dance floor.
Treading respectfully over the immediately engaging top line that has shaped Welch as one of the UK’s finest vocal assets for a good decade, Harris breaths a firm yet melodically refined chunk of club-worthy charm into this undisputedly emotive anthem. While reminiscent of Avicii’s infamous mash-up alongside his David Guetta collaboration ‘Sunshine’, Harris breaths notable life into this official remix duty for genre and artist alike. Without bending to the ranks of grinding Electro House or peak time Progressive House, the subtle yet skilfully crafted backdrop shines an inherently positive light on Harris’s ability to balance the relationship between pop music and the dance floor with stimulating consistency.
The Calvin Harris remix will be released on July 9.
Swedish Dance icon Avicii is celebrating hitting the 2 million fans mark on Facebook with a generous pledge to his fans. To celebrate his accession to the ranks of stadium filling live spectacle and chart raking producer, Tim Bergling is giving fans an exclusive free download of his previously unreleased track ‘Two Million.’
While considerable time separated Avicii’s breakthrough single ‘Levels’ and recent release ‘Silhouettes’, the summer is already looking to be a big one for the young producer as he just unleashed his remix of Lenny Kravitz’s ‘Superlove’ in anticipation of his exclusive free giveaway ‘Two Million.’ Playing the role as a considerably heavier counterpart to his usual enigmatic melodic stylings and ardent energy of his increasingly popular studio output, the Alcoholic-sampled ‘Two Million’ that has been a staple in his sets lately is sure to gain Bergling a few new fans while posing a significant nod of respect to the loyal fan base that has championed his name on a universal level.
As Size Records essential London connection Third Party prepare to unleash their fourth single for the prestigious label of Steve Angello, the duo return to Ultra Records to wet the appetites of their fans ahead of the summer season with ‘Thank You’. Premiered by Steve Angello during his set at Electric Daisy Carnival New York, the their latest studio endeavour sees them embrace the vocal styling’s of the late Loleatta Holloway in an aptly momentous union of vintage soul and modern club fuel.
With their usual collection of enigmatic synth leads and stern beat work proving the most accommodating backdrop to this renowned vocal sample, Holloway’s topline makes for an apt accompaniment to this uplifting injection of festival proof Progressive House. While ‘Love Sensation’ was always going to be a tough original to top, all the positive hallmarks of Third Party’s studio stylings remain well-oiled to forge ‘Thank You’ as yet another indicator that their accession to the ranks of promising British high-risers has been dutifully earned.
Daring Dutch crusader of the pumping House variety Nicky Romero has certainly earned some brownie points in the early quarter of 2012. But large scale events and David Guetta collaborations aside, the announcement of his new Protocol Recordings imprint sees the unstoppable producer add yet another dimension to his industrious capabilities. Premiered at Ultra Music Festival, his imprint debut ‘WTF’ alongside fellow countryman ZROQ sets the tone to an all time high with that signature energy we now associate with Romero.
From its piercing keys right through to its apex of low end wobbles, Romero’s stamina and intense precision sees Romero set an imperfect dose of brutal Progressive play. Breaking away from the stereotypical Dutch hallmarks once again, a heavy influence from Romero’s promising studio partners establishes a promising first instalment for what may well prove to be a crucial chapter in young Romero’s and his rising peer ZROQ’s unfolding career.
Set against the hysteria of their highly anticipated debut album People of the Night, young blooded Size Records duo Max Vangeli and AN21 appear well poised to take the summer season for all it is worth. But joined by their exceedingly popular mentor and imprint ringmaster Steve Angello, triple threat collaboration ‘H8RS’ sets the precedent for the album high.
Premiered by Pete Tong on his Essential Selection show, the European trio make an affirmative nod towards the uneasy boundaries between Electro and Progressive House. In a stern strike towards the criticism that has followed the prestigious Housemaster since his expansion towards the Swedish House Mafia, Angello and his committed Size peers give a middle-finger salute to the bitter entities in EDM with an affirmative injection of adrenaline fuelled club music of a supreme sound quality. While ditching the more melodic realms that Vangeli and AN21 have become associated with, ‘H8RS’ looks not to cause an uproar, but show that there is something unshakable in the positive energy that all the artists are now mustering within their careers.
Where the Swedish House Mafia-approved Jordy Lishious made eccentric noise with last year’s breakthrough ‘Lump‘, Jordy van Oostveen’s reincarnated alias Jordy Dazz looks to extend his reign on the industry with a third release for Hardwell’s Revealed imprint. Racking number 7 on the DMC World Ibiza Buzz chart and already gaining the support of Fedde Le Grand, ‘OMG’ sees the Tilburg-based producer extend upon the tough exterior that has characterised his untimely accession throughout Europe. While his heavyset drum work plays out consistently with his previous Revealed offerings, Oostveen’s dynamic chordplay and soothing interludes make for another home run for this promising Dutch contender.
As far as Dutch House assets go, long serving chart monger Fedde Le Grand and his homeland peer Nicky Romero score considerably highly on the global EDM radar. Following up on Januarys two track EP giveaway, the heavyset duo reunites for the melodically charged collaborative romp ‘Sparks’. Played by Romero himself at VAiN Nightclub in Orlando on Friday, a fan-made video has provided a sneak peek at the result of their well-documented studio sessions.
Rooted with vivacious lead work, Romero’s new school stead and Fedde’s undisputable studio talents make for a superior injection of consistent melodic club fuel for the ensuing festival season. Where their nations efforts may have been severely typecasted over the past few years, this Dutch collective breath a fresh air of versatility into the heart of Europe’s leading House nations that is certain to do the rounds across the globe this summer.

Legendary music producers Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers have further solidified speculation at this years International Music Summit in Ibiza that French Electro legends Daft Punk are to release their fourth studio album.
Moroder revealed during day three of IMS that he had recently joined Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter in the studio, with Rodgers detailing his own studio encounters with the duo earlier during the conference. While Moroder described the events that surrounded their collaborative efforts to the packed-out conference, Rodgers said that he would leave Daft Punk to reveal more information about the material, but suggested ‘That shit is amazing’ when asked about the new material.
Speculation had already started to gather earlier this year after award winning musician and composer Paul Williams announced after the premier of his Paul Williams: Still Alive documentary that he had worked with Daft Punk on some material that will be used on the duos new album. As reported by Pitchfork.com earlier this year, Daft Punk have also approached Noah Lennox a.k.a Panda Bear with a potential collaboration offer.
Homem-Christo and Bangalter last emerged from the shadows to score the soundtrack to Disney’s Tron: Legacy film in 2010 and have been vacant from the live circuit since their surprise appearance at Madison Square Garden that year.
